Tips for choosing a family friendly hotel

Taking a holiday with your family is one of life's great pleasures. Whether you opt for some relaxing time on the beach, an active skiing holiday, or a trip to some of the world's best loved theme parks, your choice of hotel can make or break your family holiday experience. Here are some of the things that you should be looking for in a hotel that suits that whole family:

Investigate the Kids' Club. There are many hotels out there that advertise their own Kids' Clubs. You should contact the hotel for a daily schedule to have a better understanding of what the Kids' Club actually is. You should also be very clear on the ages that the club caters to because if your children fall out of the age range, they won't be able to take advantage of any of the on-site entertainment.

Soundproofing. Let's face it – kids can be pretty noisy. Fortunately that doesn't have to be a problem if there is an adequate level of soundproofing within the hotel or motel building. Just because you are used to the occasional tantrum from your own kids doesn't mean that you have to give up a peaceful night's sleep because of the noise coming from other rooms in the building.

A family friendly pool. Kids love to splash around in a hotel swimming pool, particularly if they are somewhere with clear skies and warm, sunny days. Enjoying a cocktail beside the pool while your kids float around in a dinghy sounds pretty nice, right? But that dream can only become a reality if the hotel swimming pool is family friendly. There should at least be a shallow enough area of the pool for safe splashing (around 30cm is ideal for small children), and ideally the hotel should provide pool toys such as floats.

Kids' food options. You are likely to want to eat outside of the hotel for some of your meals, but on those days when you just want to relax by the pool and grab a bite to eat in the hotel restaurant, you should know what the children's menu options are. While you might be happy to delight in local, exotic, spicy delicacies, your children probably won't be so adventurous with their food and it's a very good idea to check out the food options for children in the hotel restaurant to ensure they are adequate before making your booking.

Be strict about these criteria before you commit to payment, and you and your family will be sure to enjoy the holiday of a lifetime.
